Allan Hoffman is the news anchor for WNCT–TV in Greenville. Following Hurricane Floyd, Allan and the Channel 9 news team provided round–the–clock coverage for almost nine days. Their news broadcast evolved into an information clearinghouse that helped thousands of flood victims find resources and loved ones during the peak of the disaster. For all its staff's hard work, WNCT was awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for broadcast journalism. Hoffman was interviewed in his Greenville studio in June 2002.

"When it started off, there's the immediate facing the storm. Then there's kind of a calm, and then another buildup. And then it's lifesaving. And then it's life–keeping. You make sure people have food, clothing, water. At some point after that, the lifesaving aspect fades and we have to get back to living. How are we going to find you a place to stay, and how are we going to make sure that you get the help you need to rebuild? For weeks we followed these stories about people who needed help."
